A Life Worth Celebrating

Patrica Peterson

 1956 - 2009

Pat confessed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age with the Apostolic Church of God where she later joined Victory Apostolic Church where Elder Andrew D. Singleton, Junior is the Senior Pastor.

Life she lived! As a child she was strong willed and did things her way. In the late 60’s she attended the Twiggs Day Camp and won the highest award for performing as a queen actress, a queen she was until God called her home.

Her hobbies included, a self taught swimmer, roller skating, stepping, seamstress, skiing, reading and modeling. She loved home decorating, and sharing her beautiful smile with all that met her.

To know Pat was to know that she lived her life her way, socializing, family, friends and working. On June 3, 1991 God blessed her with a beautiful, little baby girl which she called “Shell My Bell” named Michelle Averina Jonkins. Pat wanted the best for Michelle and never gave up on her, no matter where the roads led in their life.

Pat received her primary education from John C. Haynes, and secondary from Dunbar Vocational High School. She continued her education and advanced her career with many college courses. She started her work career right away after high school with Starks Sporting Goods, Chicago Housing Authority, and the Chicago Public Library. Her career ended with Bank of America, where she worked for more than twenty five years. As president of the toastmaster she was a dynamic speaker who motivated others to achieve their own potential.

Her husband danced in and stepped her off her feet, Joseph Peterson. They were united on August 14, 1999 until eternity. Their life together was everything the two of them had ever dreamed of.

To see that smile and to be in her presence was a happy today even during her sickness.

She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories, her loving husband Joseph Peterson, her precious daughter Michelle Jonkins, two step children, Joseph Peterson Jr. and Tiffany Peterson, two special God daughters, Kejuanee and Tabia, one granddaughter Ashley Peterson, her grandmother Juanita Grathouse affectionately known as “Mother Dear”, her devoted siblings Melvin Jonkins, Anita Jonkins, Vera (Irby) Dunn of Washington D.C. and Modelle (Joann) Jonkins, two great aunts Estella and Beatrice, one Uncle Bobby Burdine, a dedicated mother in law Sofie Peterson and sister in law Beverly (Cookie) Peterson, earthly mother, Louise Ray, and earthly siblings, Pam, Donna, Ronda, Yolanda, Mark, Annette, Earl and Leslie, a host of Nephews, Nieces, family, friends and the love continues.
